Iga Swiatek Trains with Nadal Ahead of Clay Season Comeback

Iga Świątek is preparing for the upcoming clay-court swing with renewed focus, hoping to regain her form after a disappointing early exit at the Miami Open and a recent split with coach Wim Fissette.

Looking for inspiration, the six-time Grand Slam champion has turned to a familiar and iconic setting — the Rafa Nadal Academy, home of her longtime idol, Rafael Nadal.

Training with a Legend Sparks Attention

In recent days, videos have surfaced on social media showing Świątek practicing on clay alongside Nadal, as well as working with her new coach, Francisco Roig. The clips quickly caught the attention of both fans and fellow players.

Many within the tennis world see this collaboration as a potentially powerful boost for Świątek, especially given Nadal’s unmatched dominance on clay courts.

Rivals React to Swiatek-Nadal Partnership

The tennis community has not remained silent about this development. Speaking after her recent success, Jessica Pegula admitted that seeing Świątek train with Nadal could spell trouble for the rest of the field.

“I feel like that’s perfect for Iga,” Pegula said, reacting to footage of the training sessions. “I saw a clip of them on clay and thought — this is bad for everyone.”

Madison Keys shared a similar reaction, joking that Nadal’s involvement only makes Świątek more dangerous.

“The last thing we needed was Iga on clay with Rafa,” she said.

During a light-hearted discussion that also included Jennifer Brady and Desirae Krawczyk, the players even joked that a partnership between Świątek and Nadal — who together have won 18 French Open titles — should almost be “illegal.”

Pressure and Motivation on the Practice Court

Despite the humor, Pegula admitted that training alongside a legend like Nadal could be intimidating. She imagined herself feeling nervous and eager not to make mistakes in front of such a dominant figure on clay.

The presence of Nadal not only adds pressure but could also provide invaluable learning opportunities for Świątek as she looks to sharpen her game.

Stuttgart Set to Test Swiatek’s Progress

Świątek’s preparation will soon be put to the test at the upcoming tournament in Stuttgart, her first clay-court event of the season.

The Polish star is coming off one of the most surprising losses of her career, having been defeated by Magda Linette in Miami. Prior to that, she had maintained an incredible streak of 73 consecutive opening-round victories dating back to 2021.

Return to Clay Brings Renewed Confidence

Fortunately for Świątek, the transition to clay could not come at a better time. The surface has been the foundation of her greatest successes, and she has consistently dominated on it throughout her career.

Following Stuttgart — where she has already won two titles — Świątek is scheduled to compete in back-to-back WTA 1000 events in Madrid and Rome, key tournaments leading into the French Open.

A Crucial Moment in the Season

With a new coaching setup and the unique opportunity to train alongside Nadal, Świątek enters the clay season with both questions and high expectations.

Whether this preparation will translate into immediate success remains to be seen, but one thing is certain — her rivals are already paying close attention.
